We had the opportunity to sit down with Demigod Nzambi, the mastermind behind the atmospheric and dark collective known as Miruthan. In this candid interview, we dive into the inspirations behind their debut EP “Cult of the Dead“, the band’s creative process, and their exciting plans for the future. With elements of folklore, horror, and brutal melodies at the forefront of their music, Miruthan’s journey promises to be one filled with gripping storytelling and unique sonic explorations. [ENG]- Hi guys and welcome to Heavyworlds, I’m Stefania and it’s a pleasure to have you here. How are you all doing?
We’re doing well! We’re currently in the first part of our European tour, enjoying the bitter cold after coming from 40-degree Celsius days back home.
- You released your first EP, “Cult of the Dead,” last year; it’s an exceptional piece, filled with dark, eerie atmospheres that take listeners on a journey through despair and lost hope. What inspired its creation?
Our folklore drove the narrative—stories of desolation and the macabre. We wanted to take people on a journey, helping them forget the real world for a while and immerse themselves in the underworld, passing through its universe and surviving desolation. Sharing these stories is what inspired the creation of Cult of the Dead.
- Can you tell us more about your future plans?
We’re currently midway through our European tour with Infected Rain. Once the tour wraps up, we’ll finish the album. There are also Australian tours in the works, and our management is actively searching for a label, so great things are on the horizon.
- The theme of your songs is deeply intertwined with folklore and horror elements, which I personally love! Does this creative direction stem from personal beliefs, or is it more of an artistic choice?
It’s more of an artistic choice. Some songs are loosely inspired by stories from my (Demigod Nzambi) personal life, though they’re heavily elaborated. Other ideas come from dreams or are concocted while on tour or at gigs.
- You guys are more what we could call a “collective” than just a band. How did you come up with this? Was it something planned, or did you just happen to find each other and it all came together naturally?
It was a very calculated move. I wanted Miruthan to be a feast for the eyes and an onslaught for the ears—brutal, but well-choreographed. We have eight full-time members, but for this tour, we’re traveling with five to manage costs. Ideally, we’d love to tour with all eight, but the reality of touring these days is challenging.
- Which bands would you say are a source of inspiration to Miruthan? Is there a particular artist or group that you admire or look up to in any way?
We draw inspiration from a wide range of styles and genres—blues, jazz, country, rockabilly, punk, and metal. The idea was to take elements from these genres and fuse them into Miruthan’s sound, making it brutal and unique.In terms of specific bands, we love Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth, to name just two.
- You guys have such cool, eerie outfits that perfectly represent the soul of the band. Which came first, the visual concept or the musical vision?
The music came first, purely because of timing, but the outfits were always part of the vision. The folklore was actually the first thing we wrote, followed by the music, and finally, the outfits.
- Speaking of eerie elements, which are of course central to your music, do you have any spiritual beliefs or deities you follow and take inspiration from?
The concept takes bits and pieces from everything, but it’s all fictional. We don’t follow any specific spiritual or religious beliefs. It’s purely make-believe and storytelling. The dark, somber tone often makes people think we’re Satanists, but it’s all tongue-in-cheek fun. We’re just cosplay nerds at heart!
- You’re about to embark on a European tour with the Motocultor Tour, alongside Infected Rain, Semblant, Skin on Flesh, and Elyose. How are you feeling about this opportunity? What are you most excited to see or experience, and what do you expect from this tour?
We’re super excited and ready! A few members are feeling anxious since it’s their first overseas tour, while others have done this many times. Touring with this incredible lineup is amazing, and we’re grateful for the opportunity.
As for what we hope to gain—just a whole lot of fun. Of course, we’d love record deals and similar opportunities, but the reality is we’re here to play our set in front of diverse crowds across different countries, and that’s enough for us.
- As a lover of horror culture, I’m curious to ask: if your band were a horror movie, which one would it be and why?
That’s a tough one! I’d say a mix of The Walking Dead and the original Frankenstein. We’re kind of kitsch, kind of elaborate, and definitely out of this world.

Stiamo bene! Siamo attualmente nella prima parte del nostro tour europeo, godendoci il freddo pungente dopo essere venuti da giornate da 40 gradi a casa.
- L’anno scorso avete rilasciato il vostro primo EP, “Cult of the Dead”; è un pezzo eccezionale, pieno di atmosfere oscure e inquietanti che portano gli ascoltatori in un viaggio di disperazione e speranza perduta. Cosa vi ha ispirato nella sua creazione?
Il nostro folklore ha guidato la narrativa: storie di desolazione e macabro. Volevamo portare le persone in un viaggio, aiutandole a dimenticare il mondo reale per un po’ e immergendole nell’oltretomba, attraversando il suo universo e sopravvivendo alla desolazione. Condividere queste storie è ciò che ha ispirato la creazione di Cult of the Dead.
- Ci puoi raccontare di più sui vostri progetti futuri?
Siamo a metà del nostro tour europeo con gli Infected Rain. Una volta che il tour finirà, finiremo l’album. Ci sono anche tour in Australia in programma, e la nostra gestione sta cercando attivamente un’etichetta, quindi grandi cose sono all’orizzonte.
- Il tema delle vostre canzoni è profondamente intrecciato con il folklore e gli elementi horror, che personalmente adoro! Questa direzione creativa nasce da convinzioni personali o è più una scelta artistica?
È più una scelta artistica. Alcune canzoni sono vagamente ispirate da storie della mia (Demigod Nzambi) vita personale, anche se sono fortemente elaborate. Altre idee provengono dai sogni o vengono concepite durante i tour o ai concerti.
- Voi ragazzi siete più quello che potremmo definire un “collettivo” che una semplice band. Come è nata questa idea? Era qualcosa di pianificato, o vi siete semplicemente trovati e tutto è venuto insieme in modo naturale?
È stata una mossa molto calcolata. Volevo che Miruthan fosse una festa per gli occhi e un attacco per le orecchie—brutale, ma ben coreografato. Abbiamo otto membri a tempo pieno, ma per questo tour viaggiamo con cinque per gestire i costi. Idealmente, ci piacerebbe fare il tour con tutti e otto, ma la realtà del tour al giorno d’oggi è complicata.
- Quali band direste siano una fonte di ispirazione per Miruthan? C’è un artista o un gruppo che ammirate o a cui vi ispirate in qualche modo?
Prendiamo ispirazione da una vasta gamma di stili e generi: blues, jazz, country, rockabilly, punk e metal. L’idea era prendere elementi da questi generi e fonderli nel suono di Miruthan, rendendolo brutale e unico. In termini di band specifiche, adoriamo i Cannibal Corpse e i Behemoth, per citarne solo due.
- Avete degli outfit davvero inquietanti che rappresentano perfettamente l’anima della band. Cosa è venuto prima, il concetto visivo o la visione musicale?
La musica è venuta prima, puramente per motivi di tempistica, ma gli outfit sono sempre stati parte della visione. Il folklore è stato in realtà la prima cosa che abbiamo scritto, seguito dalla musica, e infine, gli outfit.
- Parlando di elementi inquietanti, che sono ovviamente centrali nella vostra musica—avete delle credenze spirituali o divinità a cui vi ispirate e che seguite?
l concetto prende spunti da tutto, ma è tutto fittizio. Non seguiamo credenze spirituali o religiose specifiche. È pura fantasia e narrazione. Il tono oscuro e triste fa spesso pensare che siamo satanisti, ma è tutto un gioco di parole divertente. Siamo solo dei nerd del cosplay nel cuore!
- State per partire per un tour europeo con il Motocultor Tour, insieme a Infected Rain, Semblant, Skin on Flesh ed Elyose. Come vi sentite riguardo a questa opportunità? Cosa vi entusiasma di più e cosa vi aspettate da questo tour?
Siamo super entusiasti e pronti! Alcuni membri sono ansiosi dato che è il loro primo tour all’estero, mentre altri l’hanno già fatto molte volte. Fare un tour con questa lineup incredibile è fantastico, e siamo grati per l’opportunità.
Per quanto riguarda ciò che speriamo di ottenere—un sacco di divertimento. Ovviamente, ci piacerebbe avere contratti discografici e opportunità simili, ma la realtà è che siamo qui per suonare il nostro set davanti a folle diverse in vari paesi, e per noi è già abbastanza.
- Essendo un amante della cultura horror, sono curiosa di chiedere: se la vostra band fosse un film horror, quale sarebbe e perché?
È una domanda difficile! Direi una miscela tra The Walking Dead e il Frankenstein originale. Siamo un po’ kitsch, un po’ elaborati, e sicuramente fuori dal mondo.
