In occasione dell’uscita dell’album di debutto ‘Rhapsodies In Black’, noi di Heavyworlds.com abbiamo avuto il piacere di intervistare Amanda Somerville, Clémentine Delauney, Anna Brunner e Marina La Torraca delle Exit Eden. Questo il risultato della nostra chiacchierata. Enjoy!

-Ciao ragazze! Benvenute su Heavyworlds.com! Come vanno le cose?

Amanda: Vanno bene, grazie! Sono felice di essere vostra ospite 🙂 .

Clémentine: Ciao! Sto bene, grazie 🙂 Sto tornando da Parigi, dopo un’altra giornata di lavoro in studio!

Marina: Molto bene! Sono eccitata per l’uscita dell’album!

Anna: Molto bene, grazie! 🙂

-Come prima domanda, vi va di parlare dell’idea che ha dato il via alla nascita delle Exit Eden?

Amanda: Sono in giro da un po’ e le persone hanno avuto modo di conoscere il mio nome dal punto di vista artistico, ma ho anche una lunga carriera come musicista ‘dietro le quinte’. Sascha Paeth, mio collega ed amico di vecchia data, mi ha contattata tempo fa, dicendo che stava lavorando con un produttore nel nord della Germania e che stavano cercando una cantante femminile per delle demo ‘liriche’, così ha pensato di fare il mio nome. Il produttore mi ha contattata ed abbiamo cominciato a lavorare insieme. A quel punto non avevo molte informazioni. Mi sono avvicinata alla cosa come fosse un semplice lavoro di studio; avrei cantato le mie parti quando me l’avrebbero chiesto e basta. Quando stavo facendo le preliminari agli Eurovision con gli Avantasia, ho conosciuto alcuni ragazzi che stavano lavorando a quel progetto, che mi hanno detto di aver apprezzato molto il mio cantato nelle demo e che avevano alcune idee in mente per il futuro. Pochi mesi dopo mi hanno contattata, dicendo che credevano davvero nello svolgimento delle cose e che avremmo dovuto creare una vera band e rilasciare il materiale. Così abbiamo dato inizio alle danze! Se il mio nome ed il mio volto dovevano rappresentare qualcosa, ho detto loro che era estremamente importante renderlo ‘mio’. Fortunatamente tutti erano d’accordo e abbiamo avuto molta libertà di farlo nostro nel momento in cui siamo state ufficialmente coinvolte.

Clémentine: Beh è iniziato tutto in uno studio dove i musicisti coinvolti, tutti metallari, stavano esplorando il loro songwriting ed immaginando un modo di combinare insieme Pop e Metal. Così hanno cominciato a pensare di trasformare hits Pop in canzoni metal! Dopo avevano bisogno di voci per avere un quadro chiaro e hanno chiesto ad Amanda ed Anna (Brunner), con le quali lavoravano, di cantare su un paio di pezzi. Quando hanno ascoltato il risultato finale, hanno tutti pensato che era troppo interessante per lasciarlo lì e quindi hanno pensato di creare un intero album con questo concept e dar vita ad una band. Così hanno cominciato ad andare in questa direzione e volevano creare un progetto più grande della classica cover band con una delle due cantanti, perciò hanno scelto di aggiungere altre due voci. Amanda ha fatto il mio nome e quello di Marina ed è così che siamo state coinvolte nel progetto!

Anna: Certo! Ad essere onesta è iniziato tutto da un’idea che che hanno avuto alcuni nostri amici della produzione. Amanda ed io abbiamo cantato sulle prime demo e ci è piaciuto molto il modo in cui erano state cambiate e prodotte. Dopo aver ascoltato le nostre registrazioni, i produttori ci hanno chiesto se volevamo essere le voci ed i membri di questa band ed entrambe abbiamo subito accettato. Amanda ha una voce straordinaria ed ha raggiunto già così tanto, ero emozionata all’idea di essere in una band con lei. E’ amica di Marina, quindi le ha chiesto di unirsi a noi ed avevano anche sentito Clémentine con una delle sue band e le hanno proposto di far parte del progetto. Così è iniziato tutto.

-Parlando di ‘Rhapsodies In Black’, debutto delle Exit Eden, vi va di condividere le vostre prime sensazioni riguardo il disco?

Amanda: Mi sento soddisfatta. Mi sono divertita ed ho dato il mio meglio ed è tutto ciò vuoi.

Clémentine: E’ una fantastica avventura lavorare con altre 3 cantanti in un contesto del genere ed è molto divertente trasformare hits Pop in brani Metal! Sono così onorata di essere parte di questa band e felice di questo primo album!

Marina: E’ decisamente un album fantastico, divertente, emozionante e con un sound di alta qualità. Siamo tutte molto orgogliose e ne è valsa la pena lavorare duramente!

Anna: Beh al momento sono semplicemente così orgogliosa e felice che il nostro album sia stato pubblicato! E’ fantastico vedere che le reazioni sono positive e sono eccitata all’idea di scoprire così ci riserverà il futuro.

-Le Exit Eden vedono Clémentine, Marina, Amanda ed Anna eseguire insieme alcune delle migliori hits internazionali…Come avete deciso le canzoni da arrangiare e registrare?

Amanda: La base era già stata impostata. Siamo state veramente fortunate, perché i pezzi del puzzle si adattavano tra loro e siamo state, così, in grado di prenderli e renderli nostri.

Clémentine: Volevamo che l’intero album fosse diverso e ricco e che suonasse come un grande tributo al Pop in generale, quindi era importante per noi che i brani scelti appartenessero a diversi artisti e periodi della storia del Pop. Poi le canzoni dovevano risultare originali e speciali una volta trasformate nello stile Exit Eden, quindi abbiamo scelto tracce che lasciassero spazio ad arrangiamenti heavy.

Anna: La cosa assurda è che quando pensi alle canzoni sulle quali potresti inserire il tuo stile personale, ti vengono in mente moltissime idee. Sin dal primo momento in cui ai nostri produttori è venuta in mente quest’idea, molti brani erano già stati scelti, ma essere parte di tutto fin dall’inizio è stato grandioso. Ci sono così tante buone canzoni là fuori, ma alcune di loro hanno semplicemente l’arrangiamento sbagliato, o gli strumenti sbagliati oppure, onestamente, la voce sbagliata. Sono davvero felice di sentire e leggere che la maggior parte delle persone ama le nostre versioni più delle originali, perché è esattamente così che mi sento. Guardandoci indietro, abbiamo notato che ci sono diverse canzoni con diversi stili, che vengono da epoche diverse, ma tutte funzionano. Credo che abbiamo dimostrato che ogni canzoni Pop può essere trasformata in un bel brano Metal.

-’Rhapsodies In Black’ sembra essere più di una semplice compilation di brani heavy, quasi una visione moderna di ciò che è la musica Pop. Come avete studiato per combinare le vostre voci assieme?

Amanda: E’ una questione di lasciare andare e vedere dove l’energia del brano – le progressioni di accordi, gli arrangiamenti, i riff, i testi, le emozioni – ti porta.

Clémentine: Volevano quattro voci che suonassero diverse e si combinassero alla perfezione tra loro! Ognuna di noi è qui per servire ad uno scopo diverso. Anna ha una voce molto forte, Amanda ha una voce classica e potente così come Marina, che ha anche un tocco Pop. La mia voce aggiunge altri colori ed un altro carattere!

Marina: Grazie! L’obiettivo era quello di fare il miglior uso delle nostre voci e delle nostre ‘specialità’ – più colore c’è, meglio è! Per quanto riguarda i cori, dovevano essere grandi, operistici, con armonie tipiche dei cori. Il nostro team di produttori ha fatto un ottimo lavoro nel mettere insieme il puzzle.

Anna: Grazie! Si, esatto! Questo è il modo in cui vogliamo sentire brani Pop e non siamo le uniche! Essere al #15 posto in classifica in Germania ci ha fatto capire che molte persone hanno gli stessi nostri gusti, anche più di quanto avremmo pensato, è fantastico! Non so se ci aspettavamo dei feedback così positivi. E’ tutto stato semplicemente divertente e ci siamo tuffate nella cosa. E non credo ci sia voluto molto studio. Le nostre voci si sono semplicemente combinate, come un grande puzzle…

-Ci sono due canzoni che mi hanno toccato profondamente, ‘Heaven’ e ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’…L’equilibrio tra la modernità della musica e le vostre voci diventa magico ad ogni ascolto. Perché avete deciso di coverizzare due brani così differenti?

Amanda: Il processo di selezione era già stato completato, stava tutto nell’interpretazione. Entrambe le canzoni hanno un grande posto nostalgico nel mio cuore e quindi è stato fantastico reinventarle.

Clémenine: Perché un album bilanciato richiede alcuni brani più soft ed emotivi! Avevamo bisogno di bellissime e forti ballads nel mezzo delle nostre canzoni metal!

Marina: Tutte le tracks sono diverse tra loro, ma hanno qualcosa in comune: sono tutte grandi hits Pop. La cosa cool di questo album è che 2-3 generazioni differenti possono cantare la maggior parte delle canzoni.

Anna: Grazie mille! Volevamo che l’album fosse molto diverso. Puoi ascoltare inni, ballads e sonorità rock in una grande produzione. Ci sono tante buoni canzoni là fuori, ma avere la possibilità di interpretarle, le rende ancor più speciali. Sono veramente felice del fatto che siamo riuscite a colpirti così 🙂

-Quando stilate la lista dei brani, che percentuale ha il testo nella scelta?

Clémentine: I testi sono parte delle canzoni, ma noi ci concentriamo di più sull’approccio strumentale e gli arrangiamenti metal che potremmo apportare ai brani. Se decidiamo di fare una cover di una canzone, è anche perché il testo la rende speciale.

Anna: Hm…bella domanda…Direi che la scelta ha riguardato di più la composizione, l’atmosfera e la musica. Ma quando interpreti un brano e vuoi renderlo tuo, è importante sapere di cosa parla e sentirne le emozioni. In questo caso i testi erano più come un ancora, che abbiamo preso. Fondamentalmente i testi sono stati la sola cosa che è rimasta invariata. Attraverso tutti gli arrangiamenti l’intera canzone a volte trasmette emozioni diverse. Cantare la mia parte in ‘Unfaithful’, ad esempio, ha dato al brano molto più potere ed aggressività rispetto alla versione originale e ciò ha portato il significato ad un livello differente.

-Parlando della copertina, che vi vede vestite eleganti in un parco sinistro. Come si combina al titolo dell’album?

Amanda: Tutto è legato; il nostro nome, il titolo dell’album, l’attitudine e lo spirito della nostra immagine…Siamo 4 donne in un genere dominato dagli uomini, che rappresenta generalmente aggressività, durezza, rozzità. Possiamo cavarcela anche mantenendo la nostra femminilità intatta.

Clémentine: Abbiamo preso delle hits Pop eleganti e le abbiamo portate al lato oscuro! Questo è ‘Rhapsodies In Black’!

Marina: L’intera storyline ed immagine delle Exit Eden è stata ben pensata ed è tutto collegato. Per quanto riguarda l’album, nello specifico, si potrebbe dire che è un’elegante ‘’affettuosa entusiasta o estatica espressione di sentimenti’ – ma pur sempre sinistra e veramente metal! 😀

-Le voci in ‘Rhapsodies In Black’ coprono un diverso range di stili, dall’opera al Pop…E’ stato difficile scegliere quale stile potesse dare di più alla struttura della canzone?

Amanda: All’inizio nulla era ciò che chiameresti ‘clear’. C’è voluto un po’ di tempo prima che tutto evolvesse e diventasse una band. E’ un bene spingere te stessa fino a vedere cosa la tua voce può fare, piuttosto che restare attaccata alla solita formula.

Clémentine: Il cantato classico va bene per donare epicità ai cori, quindi è stato molto semplice immaginare tutti questi cori Pop con una potente voce lirica. Dopo bisognava capire chi suonasse meglio in questo o quel passaggio. Abbiamo fatto diversi test, abbiamo esplorato come approcciarsi ad alcune linee vocali e abbiamo tenuto ciò che pensavamo suonasse meglio.

Marina: Credo di aver risposto già nella quinta domanda, haha.

-Siete quattro cantanti che hanno studiato molti stili musicali/vocali e che condividono la stessa passione per la musica Metal/Rock…Come esseri umani, in che modo avete vissuto l’esperienza di creare questo album insieme?

Amanda: E’ fantastico avere tutte queste grandi differenti personalità, culture, background e voci messe insieme per creare un’unità. Non c’è nulla che porti persone da diverse sfere di vita ed angoli della Terra insieme come la musica. Ed amo il fatto che rappresentiamo questo.

Clémentine: E’ un’esperienza meravigliosa! Condividiamo esperienze e stratagemmi assieme e ci aiutiamo a vicenda. Non è facile essere una donna in questa industria, quindi tra noi 4 l’ambiente è molto positivo ed allegro. C’è un sacco di girl power!

Anna: E’ stato grandioso! Ognuna di noi ha la propria storia e la propria atmosfera ed è stato davvero fantastico ritrovarci insieme. Siamo molto diverse e ciò rende il tutto ancor più eccitante. Non c’è nessuna invidia tra noi, è più un ammirarsi a vicenda per ciò che facciamo, ed è bellissimo. La cosa migliore è che ci divertiamo molto insieme e ridiamo delle cose più stupide 🙂 .

-’Rhapsodies In Black’ può essere visto anche come una chance per i fans del Metal di allargare la loro cultura musicale alla scena del Pop, grazie alle vostre performance. Pensate che al giorno d’oggi sia importante per un musicista portare cultura ai fans?

Amanda: Non sono qui per ‘insegnare’ a nessuno. Se posso toccarli in qualche modo, allora è un bellissimo regalo. Tuttavia, non credo nel dover spingere un’idea nella gola di nessuno…né nelle orecchie! La musica dovrebbe essere qualunque cosa che l’ascoltatore stia cercando. Se stanno specificatamente cercando di essere illuminati, ben venga. Altrimenti, la vedo come un multi-attrezzo; qualcosa che aiuti a rilassarsi, a sfogare la frustrazione, ad alimentare una festa ecc.

Clémentine: Il nostro album crea un largo ponte tra Pop e Metal. Credo sia importante che gli artisti aiutino gli ascoltatori a mantenere una mente aperta, condividendo le loro influenze e le ultime scoperte musicali. Molti musicisti Metal ascoltano diversi generi musicali per trarre ispirazione e rinnovare il loro processo di scrittura.

Anna: Si…Perché ci sono tante belle canzoni là fuori e il semplice cambiarle, può trasformale in nuovi brani. Ci sono anche un sacco di nuove canzoni schifose, di cui il mondo non ha bisogno… 😉

-Ci sono possibilità di vedere le Exit Eden esibirsi in giro per il mondo nei prossimi mesi?

Clémentine: Abbiamo un primo show il 22 Settembre ad Amburgo, dove ci esibiremo al Metal Dayz Festival! Ma poi non avremo altri show fino al prossimo anno, suppongo.

Anna: Si! Abbiamo già uno show in programma. Sarà il 22 Settembre ai Metal Dayz ad Amburgo! Non vediamo l’ora arrivi! Personalmente non vedo l’ora…Eseguire i brani sarà molto divertente e sono davvero eccitata! E’ stato fantastico cantare le canzoni sia in studio che durante la realizzazione dei video e vogliamo decisamente fare un live show estremamente potente e grandioso. Abbiamo avuto reazioni da così tante persone in diversi Paesi, che spero potremo annunciare presto un tour. Spero che le richieste continueranno a crescere così tanto, da rendere il tutto possibile. Quindi vi prego, continuate! 🙂

-Ultima domanda. Avete scelto brani di artisti come Lady Gaga, Adele, Madonna o Brian Adams, e via dicendo. Cosa vi hanno dato come musicisti, ed ovviamente a livello emozionale, con i loro brani?

Clémentine: Ci hanno dato l’opportunità di imparare di più sulle nostre voci e suonare attorno alle loro melodie. E’ sempre divertente ed interessante cantare nuove cose, canzoni che non avresti mai pensato di cantare!

Marina: Personalmente sono una fan di alcuni tra quelli citati. Lady Gaga, per esempio, ha la mia totale ammirazione per essere una così potente giovane donna che sa il fatto suo, una grande compositrice ed un’incredibile performer. E, altro esempio: la collezione di hits di Madonna è stato il mio primo cd. 🙂

-Hello girls! Welcome to Heavyworlds.com webpages. First of all, how are you?

Amanda: Doing well, thanks! Glad to be a guest in your digital domain. 🙂

Clémentine: Hello! Thank you I’m good, coming back from Paris, after another studio work!

Marina: Very well, excited about our album release!

Anna: Very well, thank you! 🙂

-As first question, do you want to talk about the idea that gave birth to Exit Eden band?

Amanda: I’ve been around a long time and people have gotten to know my name from within the spotlight as an artist, but I have a long standing career as a professional studio musician “behind the scenes,” as well. Sascha Paeth, my longtime friend and colleague, contacted me a while back and said he was doing some work together with a producer in northern Germany and that they were looking for a female vocalist to sing some “operatic” demos and suggested me for the job. The producer got in touch with me after and we began working together. At that point, I didn’t have much info. I was just approaching the job as pure studio work; I’d sing my parts as they’re asked of me and that’s it. When I was doing the Eurovision preliminaries with Avantasia, I met some of the guys who’d been in charge of that project and they said they really liked how I sang the demos and that they had some ideas in mind for the future. A few months later, they got in touch with me again, said they really believed in how everything was progressing and thought we should form a real band and release the material. Thus the ball was rolling!
If my name and face are supposed to be fronting something, I told them that it’s extremely important I can make it “mine.” Fortunately, everyone agreed with that and we were given a lot of freedom to make it truly ours from the point we got officially involved.

Clémentine: Well, this all started in a studio where the musicians involved, all metalheads, were exploring their song writing and imagining a way to have pop and metal meet up and enhance each other. So, they started to think about turning pop hits into metal songs! Then, they needed vocals to have a clearer picture and asked Amanda and Anna, whom they are used to work with, to sing on a couple of tracks. When they listened to the result they all believed it was too interesting not to push it further and thought about making a whole album with this concept and forming a band. So, they started thinking in this direction and wanted to make the project bigger than just a regular cover band with one of two singers and chose to add two other voices! Amanda suggested Marina’s name and mine and this is how we got involved in the project!

Anna: Yes of course! To be honest, this actually all started with an idea our friends from the production company had. Amanda and I sung the first demos and we both really loved the songs the way they were changed and produced. After hearing our recording the producers asked us if we liked to be the real voices and members of this band and we both totally agreed. Amanda has an extraordinary beautiful voice and she’s achieved so much already, I was thrilled to be in a band with her. She’s been friends with Marina and got her to join and they had heard Clementine with one of her bands who also was up for this. So it got rolling from there!

-Talking about “Rhapsodies In Black”, Exit Eden’s debut, can you share your first feelings about it?

Amanda: I feel satisfied. I had fun and gave it my best and that’s really all you can wish for.

Clémentine: It’s a fantastic adventure to work with 3 other female singers in a context like this one and it is so much fun to cover pop hits turned into metal! I am so honored to be part of this band and so happy with this first album!

Marina: It is definitely a great, fun, moving, high-quality sounding metal album. We are all very proud, and the hard work put into it was totally worth it!

Anna: Well right now i am just so proud and happy that our album is out there! It is great to see that the response is so positive and I am very excited to see where our path is gonna take us.

–Exit Eden see Clementine, Marina, Amanda and Anna performing together some of the best international hits…how did you decide the songs to arrange and record?

Amanda: The groundwork was already set. We were very fortunate that the puzzle pieces simply fit together and we were able to take it from there and make it our own.

Clémentine: We wanted the whole album to be diverse and rich and to sound like a massive tribute to pop music in general so it was important for us that the songs we chose belonged to various artists and period of times in the pop music history. Then, the songs had to sound original and special once turned into an Exit Eden one so we chose tracks that left some room for heavier arrangements.

Anna: The crazy thing is once you think of songs you could put in your own style you come up with more and more ideas! Since the whole idea came from our music producers they had chosen quite a lot of songs already but being part of the whole thing from the very beginning was great. There are so many good songs out there but some of them just have the wrong arrangement or instruments or honestly the wrong singer performing it. I am really glad to hear and read that most people say they like our version better than the original, ‘cause this is exactly how I feel. Looking back now we notice that there are all kinds of songs from different styles, genres and eras but they all work. I believe that we really do show that every pop song can be turned into a great metal anthem.

-“Rhapsodies In Black” seems more than a compilation of songs played heavier, it seems to be a modern vision of what pop music is…how did you study to make your four voices combined?

Amanda: It’s a matter of letting go and just feeling where the energy of the song – the chord progressions, the arrangement patterns, the riffs, the lyrics, the emotions – takes you.

Clémentine: They wanted 4 different voices to be used differently and to sound great together! Each of us is here to serve a different purpose. Anna has the raspy rockfish voice, Amanda is the powerful and emotional classic voice as well as Marina who also steps in with a more popy touch. My voice brings other colors and another character!

Marina: Thanks for that! The goal was to make the best use of our different voices and “specialties” – the more color, the better! As to the choruses, they should be big, operatic, with choir-like harmonies. Our team of producers did a great job in putting the puzzle together.

Anna: Thank you! Yes, exactly! That is the way we like to hear these pop songs and we are not alone with this feeling! Being on chart entry position #15 in Germany shows us that a lot of people have the same taste, even more than we thought, this is amazing! I don’t know if we really imagined the feed back being so positive. It all just sounded like lots of fun and we all simply dove into it. I think it did not take much studying, our voices just kind of fell in place. It was like like a big puzzle…

-There are two songs that have touched me deeply, “Heaven” and “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”…the balance between the modernity of the music and your voices becomes really magical at every listen. Why did you decide to cover two songs so different?

Amanda: The selection process was something that had already been completed and it was all down to interpretation. Both have a huge nostalgic place in my heart and so it was wonderful to reinvent these songs and have fun with them.

Clémentine: Because a balanced album requires some softer and more emotional tracks! We needed strong and beautiful ballads in the middle of our metal songs!

Marina: All songs are quite different, and yet, they have one thing in common: they are all great pop radio hits. The cool thing about this album, is that 2-3 different generations can sing along to many of the songs.

Anna: Thank you very much! We wanted the album to be very diverse. So you can hear metal anthems, ballades and also rock tunes in a great production. There are so many good songs out there but interpreting them yourself can really make them even more special. I’m very happy we were able to strike you like that 🙂

-When you put down the list of the songs which percentual had the lyrics in the choice?

Clémentine: The lyrics are part of the songs but we focused on the instrumental approach mostly and the metal arrangements that we could bring to the songs. If we decided to cover a specific song it’s also because the lyrics made it special.

Anna: Hm… this is a good question… I would say it was more about the composition, music and atmosphere when it came to choosing the songs. But when you interpret a song and want to make it your own it is important to know what it’s about and feel the emotions. They help to transport a feeling but in this case the lyrics were more like an anchor and we took it from there. Basically the lyrics are the only thing that stayed exactly like in the original. Through the new arrangement the whole song sometimes even became different emotions. Singing my part in Unfaithful for example gave it so much more power and also aggression than the original has and this put the actual meaning on a different level.

-Talking about the front-cover artwork that sees you dressed elegant in an afterglow sinister park…how does it combine with the album title?

Amanda: Everything ties together; our name, the album title, the attitude and spirit of our visual image… We’re 4 women in a male-dominated genre of music that typically represents aggression, toughness, roughness. We can hold our own in that scene all while keeping our femininity intact.

Clémentine: We turned elegant pop hits to the dark side! That’s what “Rhapsodies In Black” is about!

Marina: The whole Exit Eden storyline and imagery was very well thought through, and it’s all connected. As for the album specifically, one could say it’s an elegant “effusively enthusiastic or ecstatic expression of feeling” – but still sinister and very metal 😀

-Vocals in “Rhapsodies In Black” cover a wide range of styles, from opera to pop…was it difficult to choose which style can give ‘more’ to the structures of the songs?

Amanda: In the beginning, nothing was what you’d call “clear.” Everything was quite the process and it took a lot of time before everything progressed and evolved into becoming a band. We all are exploring various colors and styles when it comes to our vocals on this album. It’s good to push yourself to play around with what else your voice can do rather than always stick to the same formula.

Clémentine: Classic singing is fine to bring epicness to choruses so it was pretty easy to imagine all these pop choruses with a powerful lyrical voice. Then it was more about who sounded the best in this or this passage. We made different tests, we explored how to approach some vocal lines and we kept what we all thought sounded the best.

Marina: I guess I kind of answered that in question 5, haha.

-You’re four singers that have studied many vocal/music styles and that have the shared metal/rock passion…as human beings, how did you live the experience of making this album together?

Amanda: It’s so great to have all of these hugely different personalities, cultures, backgrounds and voices come together to form a unity. There’s nothing that brings people from all walks of life and corners of the earth together like music can and I love that we represent that.

Clémentine: It’s a wonderful experience! We share experiences and tricks together, we help each other. It’s not easy to be a woman in this industry so within the 4 of us, the ambience is very positive and cheerful. There is a lot of girl power going on!

Anna: It was great! Yes, we all have our band history and experience and it was very cool to come together. We’re all very different but this is what makes it exciting. There’s no envy among us, it’s more that we admire each other for what we do and this is pretty cool. Best is that we can have a great time together and laugh about the stupidest things. 🙂

-“Rhapsodies In Black” can be also seen as a chance for metal fans to enlarge their music culture to pop scene, thanks to your performances…do you think that nowadays is important for a musician to bring culture to the fans?

Amanda: I’m not here to “school” anyone. If I can touch them in some way, then that’s a wonderful gift. However, I don’t believe in shoving an idea down anyone’s throat… or ears! Music should be whatever the listener is looking for. If they’re specifically looking to be enlightened, great. Otherwise, I see it as a multi-tool; something to aid in relaxation, something to help vent frustration, something to fuel a party, etc.

Clémentine: Our album creates a large bridge between pop and metal indeed. I think it’s important that artists help listeners to keep an open mind by sharing their influences and latest musical discoveries. A lot of metal musicians listen to many many different kinds of music to get inspiration from and to renew their own song writing.

Anna: Yes…. because there are many great songs out there and simply by changing them can let them be reborn as a new song. There are also lots of crappy new songs the world does not need…. 😉

-Are there any possibilities to see Exit Eden performing live across the world in the next months?

Clémentine: We have a first show in Hamburg on the 22nd of September as we’ll perform at the Metal Dayz festival! But then, we won’t have shows until next year I suppose!

Anna: Yeah! We have one live gig planned already! It’s on the 22nd of September and will be part of the Metal Dayz in Hamburg! We are looking forward to it very much! I personally can’t wait… to perform the songs will be so much fun and I am very excited! It was already so cool to sing the songs in the studio or on the video shoot and we definitely want to make it an extreme powerful and amazing live show. We don’t have any concrete tour plans yet but I’m sure it will happen soon. We’ve had so many people from different countries responding to us, I hope we will be able to announce a tour soon. We hope the request continues to be so high that we can make it happen. So please keep it up, everyone! 😉

-One final question…you’ve chosen songs from artists like Lady Gaga, Adele, Madonna or Brian Adams and so on…what did they give to you as musicians and, of course, as emotions by their songs?

Clémentine: They gave us the opportunity to learn more about our own voices and to play around their melodies. It’s always fun and interesting to sing new things, songs that we would have never thought to sing at first!

Marina: I am a personal fan of some of the above. Lady Gaga, for example, has my total admiration for being such a powerful driven young woman who knows her shit, is a great songwriter and incredible performer. And, another example: Madonna’s Collection of Hits was the first CD I’ve ever owned.
