Eccoci a Fabrica di Roma, dove in occasione della XIV edizione della Festa della Birra è stato organizzato un mini-festival. Abbiamo incontrato per voi Andi e Hannes dei Kissin’Dynamite, che ci hanno raccontato molte cose in una lunga e spiritosa chiacchierata…

H. E tu come stai?
Anche io sto bene, grazie!
“Money, Sex & Power” è il vostro grandissimo nuovo album, così differente dai primi due, richiama melodie più Hard Rock. Come mai questa scelta?
H. Volevamo tornare alle origini, perché possiamo dire che in “Steel Of Swabia” non avevamo alcuno stile, scrivevamo canzoni come ci piaceva ispirandoci ad altre band. Avevamo una canzone che ricordava gli AC/DC, una gli Edguy e così via… quindi non c’era uno stile Kissin’Dynamite. Nel secondo album invece volevamo provare quanto Heavy potevamo essere; questa è la ragione per cui canzoni come “Addicted To Metal” e “Iron Fist” sono state create. E dopo, nel terzo album, abbiamo finalmente trovato il nostro stile. Non è un metal estremo, ma più un ritorno alle regole dell’Hard Rock. E questo è composto da atmosfere cariche, fuse con sonorità metal e non con quelle glam e rock che sono un po’ più dozzinali…
A. E’ una specie di mix tra glam e rock anni ’80 con l’Heavy Metal, quindi chiamiamo Glam Metal quello che suoniamo.
H. E così si potrebbe dire che il terzo album è la logica conclusione ai primi due.
Questa dunque è la vostra strada futura?
H. Sì, penso di sì.
A. Forse sarà un po’ differente. “Money, Sex & Power” è ora alla base dello stile dei Kissin’ Dynamite.
H. Sai, non è che cambiamo, piuttosto cresciamo, è questo il punto. Sviluppiamo il nostro stile come tutti quanti. E se c’è qualche differenza questa è dovuta all’evolversi della band.
Noi italiani conosciamo molto bene le origini del ritornello “Bunga bunga”. Come mai avete scelto di inserirlo nell’album?
H. Perché è divertente!! C’è una storia simpatica dietro la canzone “Money, Sex & Power”. Era un normale lunedì mattina quando dallo studio siamo andati a comprare qualche Red Bull per riprenderci, dopo una nottata alcolica. Abbiamo visto un giornale titolato “Geld, Sex und Macht”, che in tedesco significa proprio “Denaro, Sesso e Potere”, che parlava di Berlusconi e dei suoi “affari”. Il titolo ci è piaciuto, quindi ritornati in studio abbiamo sperimentato tutto il giorno. Conosciamo anche le sue feste bunga-bunga, Berlusconi è decisamente la più grande rock star di questi tempi!
A. Conosciamo le sue feste perché ci siamo stati!
H. Negli anni ’80 avevamo Bon Jovi e Motley Crue; ora Berlusconi! Questo bunga bunga è così bizzarro per noi! L’abbiamo sentito in tv e ci ha fatto ridere molto, sembra quasi un’espressione infantile. Così abbiamo controllato se poteva adattarsi nella nostra canzone. Risultato: è così orecchiabile che ti rimane in testa tutto il giorno. Molte persone lo adorano ed il resto lo odia, per questo è figo, è così polarizzante!
A. Si e sicuramente ci saranno molte bionde prosperose che lo canteranno. Per questo l’abbiamo messo nella nostra canzone!
“Club 27” e “Dinosaurs Are Still Alive” celebrano chiaramente gli eroi del rock. Con chi di loro vi piacerebbe suonare?
A. Sai, è sempre bello avere la possibilità di incontrare i tuoi idoli se anche tu hai una band. E sicuramente sarebbe forte andare in tour con Iron Maiden, Accept e gli altri menzionati nelle nostre canzoni. Lentamente però inizi a pensare di più alla tua band.
H. E’ come se rimanessero un’ispirazione ma non fossero più degli Dei.
A. Ad esempio qualche settimana fa abbiamo suonato con Slash e Motley Crue ed è stata una magnifica esperienza.
H. Si e suoneremo con i Wasp quest’inverno. Abbiamo già suonato con gli Edguy…è sempre una grande cosa per noi ma non più da perderci la testa!
A. All’inizio era così, incontrando qualcuno di grande dicevamo “Ooooh, wow!” mentre poi con l’abitudine diventa una cosa normale, però sempre bella!
H. Non abbiamo piani concreti per suonare con qualcuno, ci stiamo concentrando sul nostro gruppo e vogliamo crescere affinché i Kissin’ Dynamite diventino la band con la quale tutti vogliono suonare.
A. Per risponderti posso dirti che potremmo suonare con band che si avvicinano al nostro stile, come i Motley Crue, perché al loro pubblico piaceremmo anche noi, avendo lo stesso stile.
Siete molto conosciuti in Germania e sulla buona strada per esserlo anche in Italia. Com’è nato tutto?
H. La band si è formata nel 2006. Suoniamo da quando avevamo 6 anni circa. Abbiamo fatto un concerto a Berlino e alla fine gli organizzatori sono rimasti talmente colpiti che il giorno dopo ci hanno proposto un contratto per un cd e noi abbiamo pensato: ”Wow! Diventeremo delle rock star e avremo un sacco di ragazze!” haha! Il debut-album, “Steel Of Swabia” è uscito in Germania ed Austria, poi il secondo “Addicted To Metal” in tutto il mondo. Abbiamo suonato in tanti festival e siamo andati in tour con i Primal Fear ed i nostri primi show in Italia sono stati a Roma e a Bari, ben recepiti dalla gente. E così eravamo una band internazionale…wow! E’ qualcosa di magico, perché sai che puoi conquistare il mondo! Ora abbiamo più show da headliners, più fan e presto un tour di 7 settimane in Europa con i Dragonforce. I nostri piani per il futuro sono scrivere nuovi pezzi ed andare in tour e la nostra missione è diventare la più grande rock band del pianeta. E se non ci riusciamo in 10 anni, allora ci riusciremo in 20, ma sarà così!
A. Ma nella nostra canzone diciamo che moriremo a 27 anni!
H. Possiamo cambiare il titolo: “Forever 57…!”
Hannes, ho visto i tuoi video online, quando da piccolino già cantavi in televisione…
H. Oh sì! Nella mia prima band ero tastierista e successivamente bassista. Ma ero molto magro e quel basso pesava così tanto che spesso avevo molti dolori al collo. Sul palco stavamo suonando “Highway To Hell” e c’era un cantante davvero pessimo. Non mi piaceva proprio quello che stavo facendo, così a un certo punto ho preso io il microfono in mano ed ho iniziato a cantare ed il pubblico ha gradito; così ho scoperto il canto. Ho preso lezioni e partecipato ad un casting televisivo in Germania e tutto ciò è stato molto buono per me, perché sapevo che stavo facendo la cosa giusta. Sono più bravo nel canto che come musicista. E non ho mai smesso.
E attualmente intervisti anche i grandi della musica. Ci puoi raccontare qualcosa di questa esperienza?
H. Come puoi immaginare è bellissima. Quello che facciamo con Hair Force1 è focalizzare tutto sulla musica. Perché ultimamente nella tv tedesca si ascoltano solo canzoni dei cartoni animati stile “Schnappi” e pubblicità di suonerie per cellulari.
A. Si, Mtv e Viva tv sembrano morte.
H. E’ per questo che facciamo tornare il vero rock in maniera divertente. Jim ed io siamo i protagonisti di questo show e parliamo sia di grandi band del passato che promettenti gruppi moderni. Abbiamo per ospiti grandi star come Slash, ma anche artisti esordienti e mandiamo in onda video musicali. E’ così bello, spero di farlo a lungo. E’ interessante avere un’altra prospettiva perché di solito siamo noi gli intervistati mentre ora sono io il giornalista!
I Kissin’ Dynamite sono molto presenti sui social network. Quanto pensate possa essere importante questo per una band esordiente?
A. Penso che attualmente sia veramente importante essere su Facebook e simili, perché i media cambiano sempre velocemente e questa può essere una maniera diretta per comunicare con i fan; non era così in passato.
H. Ed è gratis!
Ed ho anche visto i vostri numerosi video blog. Non tutti li fanno!
H. Sì! E’ una cosa speciale, diciamo grazie ai fan perché con loro abbiamo una stretta relazione; questo significa che siamo grati a tutti quelli che ci ascoltano e che vengono ai nostri concerti. Certo, non tutti potranno essere presenti ai concerti. Se suoniamo a Roma un fan tedesco potrebbe chiedersi come va lì in Italia!
Quindi facciamo questi video blog per mandare a tutti un piccolo messaggio e per farci seguire ovunque andiamo. E se siamo in America, allora i nostri fan potranno vedere cosa succede lì. Apprezzano molto, sanno che è complicato gestirli, non è solo registrare, ma anche preparare e tagliare i video, etc…
A. Ultimamente non è abbastanza avere album e suonare in giro, a volte nemmeno i video musicali lo sono. I fan vogliono informazioni, a loro piace sapere sempre tutto della loro band.
Qual è il messaggio principale che la vostra musica vuole comunicare?
H. Divertimento!
A. Festa! Buon umore e bunga bunga!
H. Ma questo non significa che i nostri testi facciano schifo! Lui è un grande genio!
Allora li scrive Andi?
H. Sì! E spesso usiamo l’ironia su argomenti seri. Per esempio il bunga bunga: è un fatto serio che Berlusconi faceva feste invece di far politica, ma noi cantiamo che è la più grande rock star!
A. E non significa neanche che non ci importa dei testi, ma essi mostrano il divertimento e la festa, penso che siano ben fatti!
H. E nella vita siamo grandi pensatori!
A. Dovresti sentire le nostre discussioni durante i concerti, ad esempio sulla vita oltre la morte, sulla fisica!!
Si, Jim mi ha detto qualcosa l’altra volta!
E siete emozionati per il tour con i Dragonforce?
H. Certamente! E’ il tour più grande che abbiamo mai fatto, lungo 7 settimane. Lo condividiamo con l’altra support band, the Huntress ed è figo perché la cantante è un’ex playmate, haha! E i Dragonforce sono una buona band, sicuramente sarà una bella esperienza. Che ne pensi, Andi?
A. Non vedo l’ora di provare questa nuova vita sul tour bus, ne abbiamo avuto un assaggio durante le 2 settimane con i Primal Fear ma 7 settimane è tutta un’altra cosa! Devi anche riuscire a conservare energia e forze penso!
H. Significa che non ti puoi ubriacare ogni giorno!
A. Ma ogni notte si!
H. Questi ragazzi lo faranno! Haha! Non usiamo droghe ma beviamo un po’!
A. Questo è quello che diciamo sempre nelle interviste!

Ok e cosa vi aspettate dal pubblico romano questa sera?
H. Che siano allegri, che le ragazze ci mostrino le tette…

H. Si! .. e poi che mi facciano sentire il re del mondo, che siano carichi e che siano tanti! Siamo veramente contenti di essere nuovamente qui dopo 2 anni, abbiamo avuto una bella esperienza a Roma…anche tu, vero?
Certo!
A. E siamo appena tornati dalle vacanze ma qui sembra di essere ancora in vacanza!
H. Ed attualmente sembro un biondo italiano!
A. Non credo!
H. Perché la mia pelle è così abbronzata! Quando mi guardo lo stomaco, è scuro pure quello come te, ma io non sono italiano!
A. Ed il tuo cognome è pure “Braun” (“marrone” in tedesco, n.d.r.)!

H. I’m fine thanks!
A. I’m also fine!
H. And you??
I’m fine too, thanks!!
“Money, Sex & Power” is your great new album so much different from the first two ones, it is more on Hard Rock style. Why this?
H. Actually, we wanted to go a little bit back to the roots, because, let’s say, on “Steel Of Swabia” we didn’t have any style, we just wrote songs that we liked, compared with other bands. We had a song that reminded of AC/DC, a song that reminded of Edguy …so there was no Kissin’Dynamite style. In the second album we just wanted to check out the limits in heaviness; that’s why songs like “Addicted To Metal” or “Iron Fist” were created. And afterwards, for the third album, we thought like we finally found what Kissin’ Dynamite stands for. That was not extreme metal, but more a bit back on the Hard Rock rules. And this is high loud climes mixed up with metal sound, not the glam and rock sound which is more cheesy…
A. It’s a kind of a mix of glam and rock from the 80’s and Heavy Metal, so we say it’s Glam Metal what we do.
H. And so you could say the third album is a logical conclusion of “Steel Of Swabia” and “Addicted To Metal”.
Is it gonna be your future way then?
H. Yes, I think so.
A. Maybe a little bit different as well. “Money, Sex & Power” is now the basic of Kissin’Dynamite style.
H. You know, we never change, we have a grow, that’s the thing. We develop as every band does. And if we have some difference there’s not always an intention behind that. It’s development.
The “Bunga bunga” chorus is very known by Italians and we know from where you took the inspiration of it. So, why did you choose to put it on the album?
H. Because it’s funny!! The “Money, Sex & Power” song has a cool story behind. It was a normal Monday morning, when we were in the studio and we drove till the gas station to get some Red Bull to refresh ourselves after a long night of alcohol to get sober again. We discovered a magazine over there .. the headline said: “Geld, Sex und Macht” and the title was about Berlusconi and his affairs. We liked the title, so we drove back to the studio and did experiments all the day with that title. We also know about his bunga bunga parties, I mean, Berlusconi is the biggest rock star of modern times!
A. We’ve been often to his parties, so we know them!
H. In the 80’s we had Bon Jovi and Motley Crue; nowadays Berlusconi! This bunga bunga seems so weird to us! We heard it on the German television and we just had to laugh, it sounds like a childish expression. So we checked out if it fitted in our song. And we found it so catchy that you sing it the whole day. Most of the people really like that and the rest of the people hate that and this is cool because it is polarizing.
A. Yes and of course there are gonna be young ladies with blonde hair and big breasts singing it. So that’s why we’ve chosen it in our song!
“Club 27” and “Dinosaurs Are Still Alive” clearly celebrate rock music heroes. With whom of them would you like to play together if you could?
A. You know there’s this thing that if you are a band and you meet your idols it’s always cool. And of course it would be cool touring with these bands like Iron Maiden, Accept and the ones we mentioned in our songs. But slowly it gets like you look after your own band.
H. It’s like they are kind of inspiration but not Gods anymore.
A. For example few weeks ago we played with Slash and Motley Crue and it was a great experience to meet them and see them playing.
H. Yeah and we will play with Wasp in the winter. We already played with Edguy .. it’s always a great thing for us but not that freaking out!
A. In the beginning this was the case, we met some of them and we said: “Ohhh my..!”
Anyway, slowly it became a normal thing on festival, but still cool!
H: We don’t have a concrete plan to play with these bands, we are just focusing on our band and we want to grow till Kissin’ Dynamite is the band that everyone wants to play with.
A. I could tell to answer that we could play with bands that fit with our style, like Motley Crue for example, because crowd who would be at the show would like them and us too, we have similar styles.
You’re very known in Germany and on the good way to be known also here in Italy. How was the beginning?
H. The band was formed in 2006. We were playing our instruments since we were about 6. We played a concert in Berlin and after the show the organizers were completely flashed by it. So, the next day they told us to sign a cd contract and we were like: “Wow! We will become rock stars, have lots of girls..!” haha! They started to produce our debut album, “Steel Of Swabia” out in Germany and Austria, then “Addicted To Metal”, released worldwide, then we played in a lot of festival and went touring with Primal Fear, and our first shows in Italy were in Roma and Bari, well received by the audience. And then we knew we are an international band… wow! It’s something magic, because you know you can conquer the world! Now we have more shows like headliners, more fans, and soon we’ll tour 7 weeks with Dragonforce all over Europe. Our future plans are making new records and go on tour and our mission is to be the biggest rock band on the planet. And if we don’t achieve that in ten years, we will do it in twenty years, but we will!
A. But in our song we said we’ll die at 27!
H. We can change the title: “Forever 57…!”
Hannes, I’ve seen your videos online, when you were a kid already singing on television…
H. Oh, yes! In the very first band I had I was a keyboarder, then bass guitar. But I was really tiny and that bass was so heavy, I was always having neck problems. On stage we were singing “Highway To Hell” and we had another leading who was really crappy, I didn’t like that! Suddenly I pulled the leading away and I took the mic and started to sing. The crowd cheered and that’s when I discovered singing. So I took voice lessons, then I was on a big tv-casting in Germany, really good for me because I knew what I was doing was right! I’m best in singing, not on playing. I never quitted my singing job.
And you actually use to interview big music stars. What can you tell us about this experience?
H. As you can imagine it is great for me, what we do basically with Hair Force1, we bring back the focus on the music. Because on tv in Germany you only hear cartoon songs like “Schnappi” and ring tones advertisings…
A. Actually you can say those Mtv and Viva are almost dead.
H. That’s why we bring back real rock music in a funny attitude. Jim and me are like protagonists of that tv-show and we focus on rock to celebrate heroes of the past and also nowadays well known bands that can make it to the top. We have conversations with big stars like Slash, but also with new artists and we always play some music videos! It’s a lot of fun and so cool, I would do this hopefully for a long time. It’s nice to have another perspective, because we always need to do many interviews with journalists, but now I am the journalist!
Kissin’Dynamite are so present on social networks. How important do you think it is for a brand new band?
A. I think nowadays it’s really important to be on Facebook and on all these things, because the media change in a very fast way and it can be a direct way to communicate to your fans; it wasn’t like this in the past.
H. And it doesn’t cost any cent!
And I’ve seen you use to make a lot of video blogs; not everyone does it…
H. Ya! This is a special, let’s say, “Thank you” to our fans, because we really have a close relationship with them, that means we are thankful to everyone who listens to Kissin’ Dynamite or goes to our concerts. Of course not everyone can always be on every show. So if we play in Rome a German fan sitting at home would think: “Damn, I would like to be in Rome, I can’t see anything from Rome!”.
What we do is doing those video blogs to send a little message to our fans, to let them watch what we experience and that they can follow us wherever we are. And if we are in America, they can see what happens there. They really like that, they know it’s a big effort to do these video blogs, it’s not just the camera, it’s the preparation, the cutting, etc…
A. Nowadays it’s not enough having just albums and gigs, sometimes also a music video is not enough, you need a lot of information, the fans want it, they love it, to be always updated about their band.
What’s the main message your music wants to communicate?
H. Fun!
A. Party! Great mood, bunga bunga!
H. But it doesn’t mean that our lyrics are bad, he’s a damn genius!
So Andi writes them?
H. Yeah! And we often use irony on serious subjects. For example the bunga bunga thing: it’s a serious subject that Berlusconi didn’t do politics but parties, but we just sing that he’s the biggest rock and roll star!
A. It’s not that we don’t care about lyrics, they just show you the fun and the party, I think they’re well done!
H. And in real life we are deep thinkers!
A. And you should hear the discussions during our gigs, like for example after death and physics as well..
Yes, I’ve heard this by Jim last time!
And are you excited for the upcoming tour with Dragonforce?
H. Of course we are, it’s the biggest tour we have ever done, 7 weeks long. We share it with the other support band, the Huntress and this is cool because their singer is an ex playmate, haha! And Dragonforce is also a good band, so it’s gonna be surely a cool experience. What do you think, Andi?
A. I’m looking forward to have a completely new life on the bus, we had a little taste of it in the 2 weeks with Primal Fear but 7 weeks it’s another thing! You also have to look after your energy and your powers I think!
H. Means you can’t get drunk every day!
A. But every night!
H. These guys will! Haha! We don’t use drugs, I’m honest, but alcohol!
A. This is what we always say in the interviews!

Ok, and what do you expect tonight, from the roman audience?
H. To be cheery, to show their tits…

H. Yeah! .. then to make me feel the king of the world, to be loud, to be a lot! We are really glad to be here again after 2 years, we had good experiences in Rome… you too, right?
Yes!
A. And we have just been on holidays and now here it seems we are on holidays again!
H. And actually I look like a blond Italian!
A. I don’t think so!
H. Because my skin is so brown! When I see my stomach, it is brown, almost the same as you and I’m not Italian!
A. And your last name is “Braun”!
