Their debut, “The Unexpected“, had already highlighted their extraordinary ability to merge artistic innovation with emotional intensity, but with this second work, the Salento-based band decides to push even further, crafting an acoustic mosaic that evokes dreamlike scenarios and surreal visions. Through this album, Maysnow aim to narrate their human and artistic journey, transforming personal experiences into a universal musical language.
“A Dream Within A Dream” ventures through sonic landscapes ranging from progressive metal to grunge, enriched by distinctive electronic elements. New perspectives, shaped by collaborations with artists such as Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema) and Ragnar Zolberg (ex-Pain of Salvation), enhance the album, not only harmonically, but even more so by elevating its creative development.

[ITA] Con “A Dream Within A Dream“, pubblicato nell’Ottobre del 2024 sotto l’etichetta Sleaszy Rider, i Maysnow animano un vero e proprio universo armonico, dove sogno e realtà si intrecciano in un caos interiore senza limiti. Il loro debutto, “The Unexpected“, aveva già messo in luce la loro straordinaria capacità di unire innovazione artistica ed intensità emotiva, ma è con questo secondo lavoro che la band salentina decide di spingersi oltre, costruendo un mosaico acustico che evoca scenari onirici e visioni surreali. Con quest’opera i Maysnow desiderano raccontare il loro percorso umano ed artistico, trasformando esperienze personali in un linguaggio musicale universale.
“A Dream Within A Dream” si avventura in percorsi sonori che spaziano dal progressive-metal al grunge, arricchiti da elementi elettronici distintivi. Nuove prospettive, scaturite dalle collaborazioni con artisti del calibro di Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema) e Ragnar Zolberg (ex Pain of Salvation), impreziosiscono l’album, non solo dal punto di vista armonico, ma ancor prima elevandone lo sviluppo creativo.

Tuttavia, le transizioni rischiano di apparire, talvolta, poco fluide, sfidando la coerenza di costruire una esperienza musicale che sia allo stesso tempo sfidante ed accessibile. A districare queste intricate trame sonore è proprio la voce che si erge a guida emotiva, dimostrando una versatilità che lascia spazio a sussurri intimi, ma anche a ruggiti carichi di passione.
I testi di “A Dream Within a Dream” si addentrano nei meandri dell’animo umano, esplorando temi di sogno, resilienza e introspezione. Volutamente ricchi di immagini evocative e simbolismi profondi, potrebbero risultare un po’ ostici al primo ascolto, ma lasciano l’ascoltatore libero di ricercare una propria interpretazione.
La produzione di questo album risulta molto dettagliata, con arrangiamenti meticolosi e ricchi di sfumature. Gli inserti elettronici, minuziosamente bilanciati, conferiscono un carattere decisamente moderno e non sovrastano mai l’essenza concettuale dell’album.
Alcune tracce sono degne di nota: “Another Chance” (feat D. Nonostante l’eccezionale qualità artistica, l’album non è privo di alcune imperfezioni. La varietà stilistica, nonostante porti linfa al progetto, può risultare dispersiva rendendo meno immediato l’ascolto di alcune tracce. Inoltre, equilibrando più efficacemente il mixaggio, si sarebbe potuto valorizzare meglio ogni sfumatura.
“A Dream Within A Dream” non è solo un album, ma una esperienza, un viaggio attraverso paesaggi sonori tra sogno e coscienza, che va vissuto più e più volte per assaporarne appieno le infinite sfaccettature. I Maysnow dimostrano una maturità artistica consapevole, offrendoci un’opera che sfida i confini tra i generi. Nonostante alcune lievi sbavature il disco resta un’opera magistrale di creatività, destinato a dire la sua nella scena post-progressive contemporanea.
